Business Leaders & EU Policymakers Join Forces at the 2nd Sustainability Leadership Salon

  • On 14th November, CSR Europe is convening in Brussels leading companies engaged in its Leadership Hubs to build the Business Manifesto for a European Social Green Deal 2024-2029.

  • The event, co-organised with GlobeScan and hosted by Solvay, will see the participation of key EU policymakers.

With the 2024 European elections drawing near, new opportunities are emerging within the EU sustainability agenda for collaborative efforts between businesses and policymakers. While businesses are expected to bring social issues back into the picture and speak up, be proactive, and aim to drive positive change along their value chains, EU policymakers are urged to adopt a more holistic approach to regulations and to focus on capacity building and innovation moving forward. Mutual collaboration is therefore instrumental in establishing the essential bedrock of a new European social contract that makes the Just Transition an imperative for the future of the Green Deal.

After bringing together business leaders, civil society figures, and policymakers to address the role of companies in shaping a Social Green Deal 2024–2029, CSR Europe is now preparing for a second Sustainability Leadership Salon on 14th  November in Brussels. The event, co-organised with Globescan and hosted by Solvay, will bring together CEOs, high-level representatives from leading companies, and officials from the European Commission to further the development of a Business Manifesto for a Social Green Deal 2024-2029. Distinguished participants in this second Salon include notable figures such as Joost Korte, the Director-General for Employment, Social Affairs & Inclusion.

Amidst the ongoing avalanche of sustainability policy proposals and institutional reforms, participants will address the following questions:

  • How can the European Green Deal grow into a European Social Green Deal?

  • How can the European Union and its policymakers engage with committed enterprises as allies to build a more integrated and competitive sustainability playing field that makes the EU Green Deal feasible for businesses, including SMEs?

  • Are EU leaders ready to launch a Marshall plan to finance business transformation and facilitate impactful alliances?

NEXT STEPS

Following the Salon, CSR Europe and its Leadership Hubs' representatives will finalize the Business Manifesto for a Social Green Deal 2024-2029. The policy paper will be presented to the outgoing European Commission President, Ursula Von Der Leyen, and to the representatives of the Spanish and Belgian EU Presidencies of the Council of the EU. After the European elections of June 2024, CSR Europe will also share the Manifesto with the newly elected EU leaders.
